Library post

Traditional brick and mortar libraries all over are getting the ax when budget cut times come.

Claire:  What do you think the public library is for?
Haley:  I thought that was a bathroom for homeless people.

I'm not sure I agree with this, besides a place for homeless people to use the bathroom, as per Modern Family, there are many positive benefits for an old school bookhouse. Besides free internet, free newspapers/magazines, paper records archives and the ability for my wife to be in a book club and not have to pay $20/book for chick-lit, they really do serve a purpose. Check out how far one town went to save their library (link below).

In the UK, the friends of Stony Stratford Library organized a viral campaign via facebook and twitter (as ironic as that sounds) to collectively check out ALL of the library's media. At one point librarians were stamping at a rate of 380/hour.

From the article:

'The library is the one place where you find five-year-olds and 90-year-olds together, and it's where young people learn to be proper citizens'. It's crazy even to consider closing it.'
